By Bob Branciforte
Florida State's School of Library and Information Studies associate professor Kathleen Burnett, Ph.D., doctoral graduate Manimegalai M. Subramaniam, Ph.D., and doctoral student Amelia Gibson published “Latinas cross the IT border: Understanding gender as a boundary object between information worlds” in the First Monday, Volume 14, Number 9–7 September 2009.
The article questions how successful Latina IT professionals construct and reconstruct their conceptions of gender before, during, and after contact with the information world of the IT industry. Five Latin women who held senior management positions in IT firms in 2008 were interviewed to explore their reasons for choosing and persisting in the workforce.
