2008 STUDENT ACADEMY AWARD GOES TO FSU FILM SCHOOL GRADUATE

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- For the fifth time in four years, a Student Academy Award has gone to a film written and directed by a student from Florida State University's renowned College of Motion Picture, Television and Recording Arts -- best known as The Film School.
On June 7 at the 35th Annual Student Academy Awards ceremony, hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, Calif., the silver medal in the Narrative category went to "The State of Sunshine," a short film written and directed by FSU alumnus Z. 2008 FLORIDA STATE LAW GRAD RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Donna Duncan, a 2008 graduate of the Florida State University College of Law, has received the Clinical Legal Education Association's Outstanding Student Award. The award is presented annually to law students who have excelled in clinical education.
Duncan, an Apalachicola native, received the national recognition for her leadership in researching, drafting and advocating for the Children in Prison Rehabilitation Act, a legislative project of the law schools Public Interest Law Center (PILC). More on this story.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- A Florida State University doctoral candidate in Religion has received the renowned Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship.
Elizabeth Barre, finishing her final year of dissertation writing in law and religion, has been selected a Newcombe Fellow -- an honor that recognizes graduate students who have an interest in the study of ethical or religious values. More on this story.

DOCTORAL STUDENT RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS SCHOLAR AWARD

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- A Florida State University doctoral student has been awarded a prestigious scholarship to further the clinical psychology studies that she hopes will allow her to one day literally save lives.
Kimberly Van Orden, 28, has received a $15,000 P.E.O. Scholar Award from the International Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood for the 2008-09 academic year. Van Orden studies suicide risk assessment and management. When she completes her doctorate, she hopes to run a specialty clinic for individuals exhibiting suicidal behavior and conduct clinical trials to determine the most effective treatment.
